The primary use for the "Yo" (eleven) is to give the pass line player something extra on the come out. Since the Yo is a one roll bet, some gamblers toss the dealers a "dollar Yo," which means that if the shooter throws an eleven on the very next roll, the player wins $15, but if anything else rolls, he loses his dollar. Coincidentally, the casino makes 11% on the eleven, which makes it a bad bet.
So, is this "dollar Yo" the best way to take advantage of the eleven’s 15:1 odds?

Rather than bet on the come out, some crapshooters bet on every roll of the dice, once an initial waiting period is over. Since the Yo should roll once every 18 times, they wait twenty rolls first, before they start betting. In addition, they count all the rolls and know how many rolls have passed since the last eleven.
So, when they start playing, they wait for the first eleven and begin counting. After twenty rolls, and no second eleven, they begin betting. If another eleven rolls before the waiting period ends, they just begin again. Counting rolls is easy. They use their chip racks and start with $1 chips and move them across the rack. When five $1 chips are moved, they are replaced with one $5 one.
After twenty rolls have passed, they begin betting one dollar on the eleven. They continue adding $1 to every roll, until the eleven is finally hit. Remember, the Yo pays 15 to 1, so if $20 is bet, the payoff is $300. Of course, you have to subtract the money bet from the money won to give you a profit.
When the first $1 is bet, there have already been 20 rolls since the last eleven, so betting really starts on the 21st roll. It is unlikely that an eleven will roll less than once in 36 rolls. But, in the event that it takes more than 40 rolls (20 rolls plus the first counted 20), bets will need to be increased by $2, instead of $1. You can make your own betting chart by figuring out the wagers, payoffs, and profits.
Let’s look at some examples. If the eleven hits on the fourth roll (after the initial 20, which is actually the 24th) the payoff is $60 from a $4 wager. But, $10 has already been bet, so the profit is $50 ($60 - $10). On the 15th roll (after the initial 20 which is actually the 35th) where $15 is bet, the win is $225. So there is a $105 profit, because $120 has already been bet.
If you want to try this system yourself, tell the dealer what you are going to do and make sure of the betting limit on the eleven. It should be the same as the table limit. Some casinos have different prop bet limits than others. Most crapshooters play with casino credit, or have a bankroll of between $1000 and $2000 to bet in this manner. And, before you bet with your hard earned cash, try making a series of imaginary bets first. Move your chips to count the rolls, but don’t place any money on the Yo. See when it hits and how much money you would have made if you placed a bet. Try this several more times and then, when you’re comfortable with both the counting and the betting, tell the dealer what you’re going to do and give it a try!
