Playing Blackjack - A Step for Step Guide:

  1. Up to seven players can take part in any hand of Blackjack.  Each player will place an initial wager on the table and the dealer will then deal each player two cards face up (one at a time), the dealer will get the last card and place it face down.

  2. The players asses their cards and decide whether to hit to increase their total card value with the hope of beating the dealer.

  3. When all players stand, decide not to take any more cards, bust or surrender the dealer will turn her face card up.  The dealer must hit to seventeen or above but no more than 21, when the dealers hand is between 17-21 she must stand.  Dealers with hands of 16 or less must hit, if the dealer happens to bust while drawing more cards all players that are still in the game win.  Between each player and dealer the one that has the highest total to twenty one wins.

  4. Players that bust or lose to the dealer lose their bet, no more no less.  Players that tie or "push" get their bets back (You live to bet another hand).  Blackjack beats all hands including hands totalling 21 but ties with a natural blackjack.

Winnings Table

Blackjack 3 to 2
Insurance 2 to 1
Winning Hand 1 to 1

Let's see the game through the dealer.  Some casinos will make a dealer hit on all 16's and stand on all 17's, the exception being a "soft" 17 (A and a 6), the reason being that an Ace can either have the value of one or eleven.  Therefore the dealer can safely try to hit from a soft 17 to 21, if the dealer goes over 21 on a soft 17 the value of the Ace reverts to 1.  If the dealers two cards are an Ace and a Face card the dealer wins, this is called a natural Blackjack.  Players or Dealers with a natural Blackjack always beat combinations of cards that total 21.  Only natural Blackjack are ties or "pushes" where no money is lost.
